Unparalleled Access To The Seat Of Power.

With Academic Campuses in Places Like Washington, D.C. and Oxford, UK, UGA Takes Experiential Learning to a New Level.

Many universities offer students the opportunity to live and study in Washington, D.C. for a semester—only a handful do it at their own academic campus in the nation’s capital. UGA’s is called Delta Hall, funded by a $5 million grant from the Delta Air Lines Foundation.

Opened in the spring of 2015, Delta Hall provides a residential center in the heart of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. UGA students are housed on the second and third floors, with classes taught in the first-floor classrooms.

Delta Hall programming is open to undergraduates in any major. Students can intern full-time in legislators’ offices, government agencies, think tanks or other organizations while earning a semester’s worth of credit hours for the courses they are taking at Delta Hall. It’s a robust program that’s a favorite among UGA students seeking experiential learning.

A UGA Foundation Fellowship allows students who earn top honors within the Morehead Honors College to receive fully funded spring travel/study programs once a year for three years.

Washington D.C. isn’t the only place where UGA offers on-location educational opportunities. The UGA at Oxford Centre hosts students in a renovated nineteenth-century Victorian mansion in North Oxford. It accommodates 40 residential students and boasts a library, seminar room, IT facilities, comfortable living areas, modern kitchens, a beautiful set of gardens, sporting lawns and laundry facilities.

UGA students are granted special status as members of Keble College or Trinity College, two of the 39 colleges at University of Oxford. As members of the colleges, UGA students have full access to every aspect of college life, right alongside the Oxford students. They may dine in the halls, study in the libraries, join college sports teams and participate in student societies, just as they undertake their classes in the one-on-one setting of tutorials, as all Oxford students do.

The oldest study abroad program offered by the University of Georgia is the Cortona Program, located in the rolling hills in the region of Tuscany, Italy. The UGA International Center in Cortona offers study abroad programs in art and art history, business, and the study of winemaking. Centrally located in a breathtaking region of Italy, it is within easy reach of the cultural hubs of Florence and Rome.

A UGA Foundation Fellowship allows students who earn top honors within the Morehead Honors College to receive fully funded spring travel/study programs once a year for three years. Additionally, we offer many scholarship opportunities for all students to supplement their education.

UGA’s efforts in hands-on learning opportunities have been recognized for excellence by the National Society for Experiential Education. UGA is piloting a Field Studies Fellows Program to help faculty create and expand courses that enable students to conduct field research across the country. We have offered approximately $9.3 million in student scholarships since the Experiential Learning initiative launched, helping more than 7,250 students. A recent $1 million investment from President Jere W. Morehead supports and expands these experiential learning scholarships.

Experiential Learning at the University of Georgia

The University of Georgia is a leader in experiential learning innovation. In fact, we’re one of the nation’s largest universities to offer and require 100% of undergraduate students to engage hands-on learning experiences, including internships, research opportunities, or study abroad. In 2022, we had over 190 study abroad programs with courses offered in 88 countries across all continents. The experiential learning requirement also includes creative, service, and leadership opportunities throughout Georgia, the U.S., and across the globe.
