Workforce development is job one for UGA outreach programs

Since 2015, when the Vinson Institute launched its Workforce and Economic Analysis unit, faculty and staff there have been working with communities throughout Georgia to identify ways to connect local employers with the local workforce.

Rock Eagle 4-H Center to make critical facility improvements as recipient of Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund

Rock Eagle 4-H Center was announced as a recipient of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER II) in a press release from Gov. Brian Kemp’s office on Jan. 10. The release stated that the $2.2 million in funding “will support vitally needed improvements to the facility to increase safety and expand learning experience opportunities.”

UGA and MU awarded $1.2 million NSF-NIFA grant to fight the soybean cyst nematode

University of Georgia plant pathology researcher Melissa Mitchum will co-direct a $1.2 million award from the joint National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NSF-NIFA) Plant-Biotic Interactions Program to help combat a devastating soybean pathogen with colleagues at the University of Missouri.

The Truist Foundation and SunTrust Trusteed Foundations have gifted $1.25 million to the University of Georgia Innovation District to establish the Truist Community Innovation Initiative.

Three more UGA faculty elected Fellows of the National Academy of Inventors

Perdue Foundation provides support for UGA Poultry Science Building

A $200,000 grant from the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, will help support the construction of the University of Georgia’s new Poultry Science Building, which will begin construction in spring 2022.
